Suojeluskunta Colonel m/31 (Civil Guard) Summer Uniform

RARITY: Ultra-Rare
5/5

This m/31 Suojeluskunta  summer uniform is ultra-rare and is a named piece from a Civil Guard Colonel from Helsinki as designated by the blue/yellow officer arm patch. He was one of the Finnish 27th Jägers who trained in Germany  before independence in 1917! The original Jäger collar pin can be seen in the pictures.  This gentleman had a long  history in Finland including his involvement as a pilot, officer trainer (as indicated by his lapel badges), and a judge for the air corp. The uniform can be identified when looking at the picture with his name inside the pant on the A. Whalstrom Oy. Helsinki tailor tab showing “Tuomari Virkkunen” or judge Virkkunen. The condition of this complete set is amazing and almost unheard of in Finland or anywhere. These uniforms just did not survive due to the thinner material used compared the much thicker wool material used for other tunics and trousers of the civil guard like the m/27. This is also true due to the attrition of uniforms that were destroyed after the war in an effort to be compliant with strict government rules relating to possession and display of these items.  This uniform must have been very well cared for and climate controlled. The grouping includes his Sk.Y 1936 cap with Helsinki officer cockade, and leather headband. The shoulder-boards bear the original S officer tabs as well as the officer trainer badges. The sleeves of the tunic have the blue piping associated with the Suojeluskunta Air Corp. The trousers have the foot / boot straps and buttons intact. The original Sam Brown leather officer belt is shown with a Lahti m/35 holster. The holster was not from the Colonel. Original to the set are the “Skoha” or Suojeluskuna  Oy.  marked suspenders dated 1934. Also seen are the original wartime leather officer boots. All in all this is an amazing piece of history tied to a well documented figure in Finnish Jäger 27 (Pre-Independence 1916-17), White Guard (Civil War 1918) and Suojeluskunta history (inter-war 1919-1938) and Suojeluskunta (Winter War 1939-40, Continuation War 1941-44).
